Dealing with Depression

By SherylSpeaks.com

Admitting that you have an issue with depression is one of the most difficult things that you will ever do in life. Society, it seems, always expects us to be happy and fulfilled, but we don’t always feel that way inside.  No matter what we have achieved, there are times when we feel that our life, our contributions, just don’t measure up to the ideal that we had in mind.

When I begin to feel this way, I often combat these feelings by creating a gratitude list.  This list helps me to realign my mind and to ward off those incessant feelings of inadequacy.  The process of creating the list is simple.  Just write down the first 10 things that you can think of that you are grateful for.  It can be anything from the air that you breathe, to the fact that you are still alive today.  The point of this exercise is to remind you, that no matter what is happening in your life, that you are luckier than most, and that you will be okay.

There are so many people in the world who are truly suffering at any given moment.  Gratitude lists remind us of how blessed we are and help us to realign our vision with the vision that God ultimately has for us and for our lives.  So, the next time you start to feel down, make a gratitude list!  Once you have listed 10 things that you are grateful for, read and reread the list until you feel your mind beginning to shift back to positivity.

Life is a beautiful journey, with ups and downs, sunshine and rain.  Don’t allow a tough situation, a bad break, an unfortunate circumstance, to keep you from moving forward and receiving all of the blessings  that God has for you!  Make a gratitude list everyday, and use that list to ignite positive thinking within your mind and in your heart.  You are so blessed, in so many ways, but the decision to recognize and rejoice in your blessings is completely up to you!  No matter what happens, keep pushing forward, until you can enjoy each day and the beauty that it brings, regardless of the weather!

Thank you for stopping by, until next time, stay blessed!
